Day 24: King Jesus

Read Psalm 44-45

The Millennial Kingdom is the thousand year reign of Christ which will usher in the New Heavens and New Earth talked about at the end of Revelation and prophesied in the Old Testament. Long-time Southern Baptist pastor Jerry Vines once gave a beautiful description of the Millennial Kingdom...

"I will wake up one fair morning, stroll down the streets, and come up to a wagon full of roses. After reaching in to get a few, I will notice that there are no thorns on these roses.  I will ask that attendant, 'Where did you get these roses?'  She will answer, 'I grew them in the desert'  I will ask, 'In the desert?'  She will answer, 'Yes, haven't you heard? The Lord reigns in Zion and the desert shall blossom like a rose.

I will walk into a pet shop and see a man buying a cobra for his young boy.  After asking why he is buying a poisonous snake for his son, he will answer, 'Haven't you heard? The Lord reigns in Zion and the Lion shall eat straw like the lamb and the little child shall play upon the hole of the cobra.'
I will go a little further and ask where are the policemen. Someone will answer, 'there is no need for them. The Lord reigns in Zion and they shall have beat their swords into plow shares and their spears into pruning hooks, and nations shall learn war no more.'
I will ask to visit the hospitals to encourage the sick. Someone will say, 'But we don't need hospitals, for the Lord reigns in Zion.  The inhabitants of this land will never say I am sick.'
What about your home for the crippled?  Someone will say, 'We don't have any of those either for the Lord reigns in Zion.' What about your deaf and mute?  'We don't have any of those either, for the Lord reigns in Zion.' What about your cemeteries?  'We don't have any of those either for the Lord reigns in Zion.'
Where do you go to church?  'WE all go up to Jerusalem to worship the great King.' And I will go up to the Temple and see the Lord high and lifted up.  And I will hear the great choir sing, ‘All hail the Power of Jesus Name!’  And I will know that I have made it to this place where the Lord reigns in Zion."
I don't know about you, but I can't wait until Christ returns and establishes His Millennial reign. Some days it's just overwhelming to bump into the reality of a world full of sin. The psalmist in our new chapters today certainly understood this. One moment he's thanking God for all the good happening and the next he's crying out to God for all the bad he and the people were experiencing.

Chapter 45 is one of those chapters that speaks of an earthly king but is also prophetic in pointing to our heavenly king, King Jesus. Don't you just love these words in vs. 6-7a? "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness; you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness."

That's what we have to look forward to some day. A kingdom where God reigns forever and ever in righteousness. In a place where there will be no wickedness. That should bring joy to the saints of God! Our response should be the same as the psalmist in Psalm 45:1: "My heart overflows with a pleasing theme; I address my verses to the king; my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe."

With our hearts, our words and our writing, let us lift high the name of our King. The righteous King who will reign for all eternity. Let our hearts overflow with praise.

Are you taking time regularly to think about the hope of eternity?

What are some of the frustrations of life you will not have to worry about in the Millennial Kingdom? Take time and give thanks to God.

Prayer for the day: "Eternal Father, I thank you that my future is secure. I thank you that I will never have to struggle with sin or face the painful affects of sin. I thank you that some day I will worship you perfectly and never experience pain or sorrow. Thank you for King Jesus. In His name, Amen."
